Those who vanish

It began as Asphalt, a story born from a late-night walk, imagining how wildlife might evolve to survive human neglect.

That thought became a 90-minute animated feature, first pitched in 2015 at Cartoon Movie, developed with an insanely talented team.

Daniel Balage led the urban-meets-nature art direction, while Jean-Baptiste Vendamme crafted characters on the brink of being forgotten.

🏚️ In a dying zoo, a massive black bear named Asphalt has given up.

The younger animals still cling to hope, surviving on nightly calls from Utang, an orangutan who escaped years ago.

Until one night… the calls stop.

Desperate for answers, they break free, wandering through a city that has erased them from existence.

🎨 We pushed boundaries:

🔹 Organic “concrete” fur R&D for Asphalt’s unique texture.
🔹 A deep narrative rewrite influenced by Marie de Hennezel, exploring aging, loss, and what it means to disappear.
🔹 A co-production with Canada, national funding, and a teaser to bring this forgotten world to life.

By 2018, despite all the work, the vision, the raw emotional depth, the project had to pause. But some stories don’t let go. A year ago, I picked it back up. The deck, the script, the vision—it’s all still here.

And Asphalt?

🐻 She’s still waiting.
