The River Boyne

I met Nick, the brilliant (and dangerously charming) CEO of Algorithm, over pints in Dublin—where most great Irish ideas are born.

Between business talk and bad jokes, we hit it off fast. So when he and his creative partner Daniel invited me to direct a short film celebrating the River Boyne, I said yes before fully realizing what I’d signed up for.

(Which, honestly, is how most of my best stories begin.)

The mission?

A 3-minute animated short—projected directly onto a water screen floating on the actual river.

At Christmas. 🎄

Outdoors. 🪨

In Ireland. 🇮🇪

Madness, right? And yet… it worked. With the goddess Boann as our guide, and a cameo by the legendary Salmon of Knowledge, we crafted a story rich with Irish mythology, playfully modernized for a crowd huddled in scarves and raincoats.

Working with the team at Algorithm—my unofficial Irish family—was pure joy. They brought the technical wizardry, I brought the animated folklore and oddball pacing, and together we turned the Boyne into a living, laughing canvas. ✏️

People showed up in the cold to watch glowing goddesses dance on the water, and they left smiling. That’s not nothing.

I’d go back in a heartbeat. Preferably with less rain and more Guinness. 🍻

Not even a cliché.

Produced by Algorithm (Dublin). 💚🍀

I was lucky enough to write, storyboard, and direct it. 🎥
