When I first met Vincent Amouroux, a director with a resume that’d make anyone’s eyes pop, I thought to myself, “This guy’s got a wild side, maybe he’s hiding something?”
It turns out he was hiding an insanely creative π€― mind, and we just clicked.
π I mean, who knew documentary directors could be so… interesting, right?Β
So, Vincent gets together with these big-shot producers from ARTE and ZED, and they start working on this thing called Living Universe.
A 4-episode TV documentary series as a massive scientific-fiction! One hour each episode! πͺ
It’s about life beyond Earth, exploring the cosmos, and all that jazz.
π You know, the kind of stuff that keeps you awake at night, contemplating the universe and wondering what’s out there.
Now, my role in this whole shebang was pretty important.
I did βοΈΒ storyboarding, supervised, and directed the animated sequences (with the approval of the director, obviously.)
ποΈ Yeah, I was like the glue holding all these imaginative bits and pieces together, if I do say so myself. And you know, it wasn’t just about making things look pretty.
We worked with scientific committees and all that, so our stuff had to be legit.

What really got me jazzed about working with Vincent was how he took these mind-bending scientific ideas and turned them into stories that even a schlub like me could understand.
He was like a mad scientist with a knack for storytelling. π¨π»βπ¬
The whole thing was a trip β a wild ride at the edge of science, and we were just holding on for dear life.
The production process took a couple of years, and let me tell you, it was like being back in school. I learned a thing or two from Vincent’s storytelling style, and I got to bounce around ideas with this crazy talented team.
It’s not every day you get to work on something that’s as much a learning experience as it is a job, right? π
π And let’s not forget about our pals at ARTE and ZED.
These producers knew a good thing when they saw it, and they put their money where their mouths were. They trusted Vincent’s vision, and because of that, we were able to create a documentary that was equal parts gorgeous and thought-provoking.
So, there you have it.
π« Living Universe is this wild, beautiful, and brainy documentary series that takes you on a cosmic journey like no other.
π As Director of Animated Sequences, I storyboarded, supervised, and directed all animated segments, balancing scientific accuracy with stunning visuals, while collaborating with ARTE, ZED, and leading scientists. π¬
